بررسي آگاهي و نگرش دانشجويان دانشگاه علوم پزشكي كردستان در مورد ويروس پاپيلوماي انساني و نحوه ي انتقال آن در سال 1403

Background and Aime: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) comprises a group of epitheliotropic viruses implicated in various cancers, including cervical, oropharyngeal, anal, penile, vaginal, and vulvar cancers. As the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide, the preva‎lence of HPV is significantly increasing. Despite this, public knowledge about HPV remains inadequate. Assessing the awareness and attitudes of medical students is crucial, given their role in healthcare delivery. This study aimed to eva‎luate the level of knowledge and attitudes regarding HPV and its modes of transmission among students at Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, 301 students from Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences participated by completing a standardized online questionnaire. The questionnaire was divided into two sections: knowledge assessment (37 questions) and attitude eva‎luation (9 questions). Data were analyzed using SPSS software. Results: The data revealed a mean knowledge score of 26.67 ± 4.15 and a mean attitude score of 16.29 ± 3.54, indicating relatively adequate knowledge but generally suboptimal attitudes toward HPV among the study population. No significant association was found between knowledge and demographic characteristics except for age and marital status, with younger students demonstrating higher knowledge. Additionally, significant associations were observed between attitudes and marital status as well as academic level. Conclusion: Despite advancements, studentsʹ knowledge and attitudes toward HPV still fall short of optimal levels. This study highlights the need for more comprehensive educational programs to enhance knowledge and attitudes across all age groups.
